A company called 220 Laboratories Inc. is suing Kate Hudson, claiming the hair care products she launched with stylist David Babaii were created on the concept of using volcanic ash that the firm developed. According to documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Friday, the company says it entered into an “oral contract” with Babaii to manufacture a line of hair care products in 2006, using volcanic ash from the Vanuatu Islands of the South Pacific, but he chose to use another company. Hudson’s rep, Brad Cafarelli, said the lawsuit is baseless. “Kate does not know the plaintiffs and has never met with them or spoken with them,” he stated. The firm is suing for misappropriation of trade secrets, fraud, and breach of contract.
